Festival celebrates 15 years with expanded programming

After the success of its latest edition — which drew more than 32,000 people and screened over 120 films — the Olhar de Cinema – International Film Festival of Curitiba announces updates for 2026. One of Brazil’s leading events dedicated to independent cinema, the festival celebrates its 15th anniversary and will take place from 4 to 13 June 2026.

“Reaching the festival’s 15th anniversary and reaffirming Olhar de Cinema as one of the country’s most important events is a great joy. We look to the future with enthusiasm,” says Antonio Gonçalves Jr, the festival’s general director. He highlights the curatorial diversity — in language, perspectives and origins — that continues to define the event.

MECI strengthens Brazil’s audiovisual sector

The 2024 edition set a new audience record and marked the debut of the MECI – Independent Brazilian Film Market, held at the Oscar Niemeyer Museum. The event gathered more than 400 participants, including national and international guests, major industry players and audiovisual funding institutions.

“The first MECI was a success, bringing together leading voices from cinema and streaming. The second edition promises to be even stronger,” says Lorayne Mendes, executive director of Olhar de Cinema.
