While promoting the Devil Wears Prada sequel, Meryl Streep chose Brazilian brand LAPIMA — the Manuela model from the Vela collection, inspired by Ceará’s traditional sailboats.
Streep’s standout accessory
On Wednesday, April 1st, Meryl Streep appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in New York City wearing a look styled by Micaela Erlanger. The most eye-catching accessory? Sunglasses by LAPIMA, a Brazilian luxury eyewear brand. The actress opted for the Manuela style from the Vela collection, designed by creative director Gustavo Assis.
The appearance is part of the promotional tour for the highly anticipated Devil Wears Prada sequel, in which Streep reprises her iconic role as Miranda Priestly. Behind the scenes, she also filmed a lighthearted video alongside host Stephen Colbert.
The Manuela and the Vela Collection
The Manuela is a bold cat-eye frame with sharp lines and accentuated curves. Its “negative surface” construction draws attention to the eyes and instantly conveys sophistication. Each piece is hand-sculpted by LAPIMA artisans and finished with the brand’s signature cashmere polish, delivering an intense shine and lasting comfort.
The Vela (meaning “sail”) collection draws inspiration from the traditional jangadas — wooden sailing rafts native to the state of Ceará, in northeastern Brazil. The collection’s color palette reflects the region’s dramatic sunsets and open ocean views. All frames are crafted from organic acetate, free from petrochemicals, reflecting the brand’s sustainability ethos.
LAPIMA’s global rise
Founded in 2016 by Gisela and Gustavo Assis in Campinas, São Paulo, LAPIMA exports approximately 90% of its production to over 33 countries. The brand has already attracted a star-studded clientele, including Anne Hathaway, Harry Styles, Jessica Biel, and Olivia Palermo.
With Meryl Streep now among its admirers, LAPIMA reaches a new level of international recognition. The actress, one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed talents, put the Brazilian brand in the spotlight of one of America’s most-watched late-night programs.
The devil may wear Prada — but her sunglasses are Brazilian.
