Discover 4 fun facts about pizza, Brazil’s favorite dish, according to Gabriel Concon from Pizza Prime.
Brazil produces, on average, more than 2.5 million pizzas per day—about 1,752 units per minute, according to the Associação das Pizzarias Unidas do Brasil (Apubra). In 2025, pizza was the third most ordered category on iFood, with 92 million orders. Gabriel Concon, founder and CEO of Pizza Prime, Brazil’s largest pizza chain, shares four curious facts about the country’s most beloved round dish.1. Invented in Naples
Although ancient civilizations such as Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans enjoyed flatbreads made from water and flour, the pizza as we know it was invented in Naples. According to Gabriel Concon, “low-income residents of the region placed tomato slices on the dough and topped it with cheese to offer a cheap and easy meal.”
2. The world’s most expensive pizza costs R$60,000
Created by chef Renato Viola in Salerno, Italy, the Louis XIII pizza is the world’s most expensive, priced at about R$60,000. The high cost comes from rare ingredients, such as Oscietra Royal Prestige caviar, Acciaroli red shrimp, Norwegian lobster, and premium alcoholic beverages. The dough takes 72 hours to prepare.
3. Made by a NASA 3D printer
NASA funded a 3D printer capable of preparing pizzas for astronauts on long missions, replacing dehydrated foods. The machine, called Chef 3D, could make a pizza in half the time of a traditional pizzaiolo, but the project was discontinued due to budget cuts and the printer was later used at parties and amusement parks.
4. One of the most ordered delivery foods
According to iFood, pizza was the third most ordered category in 2025. Pizza Prime, with over 80 units in 11 Brazilian states, delivers more than 200,000 orders per month, using its own fleet, third-party delivery riders, and on-demand services.
