Wine consumption grows in Brazil as national labels gain recognition for quality, diversity and awards.
Rising consumption boosts Brazilian wine market
Wine consumption in Brazil has been steadily increasing, going against the global trend of decline. According to Abrasel, Brazilians are adopting the drink more naturally in their routines, contributing to the rise of national wines, which continue to gain visibility and international awards.
Regions such as the Serra Gaúcha, Campanha Gaúcha, Vale dos Vinhedos, Vale do São Francisco and high-altitude areas in Santa Catarina have consolidated themselves as strong terroirs, producing high-quality reds, whites, rosés and sparkling wines. Technical advances have strengthened the identity of Brazilian wine, aligning it with global standards.
Consumer trust and market expansion
According to specialist Raphael Zanette, founder of the Vino! wine bar network, consumer perception has shifted significantly. “Years ago, Brazilian consumers still viewed national wines with some prejudice. Today, this has changed. We now have high-quality, competitive and award-winning labels,” he says.
The trend also reflects in business. In the past year alone, Vino! increased its selection of national labels by 130%, now offering more than 100 options. “Our mission is to democratize wine consumption and highlight what Brazil produces,” Zanette adds.
Highlighted Brazilian labels
Among the wines that showcase national diversity, the specialist highlights:
Galópolis – Vino!’s house wine, a Chardonnay and Viogner blend from Serra Gaúcha.
Santalu Rosé – from the Curadoria line, a Syrah and Merlot blend.
Mula Preta Chardonnay – a dry white wine with elegance and presence.
Espumante Vino! – an exclusive sparkling wine, ideal for all occasions; Best in Show at Wine South America.
817m – a red blend of Refosco and Marselan, with smooth tannins and balance.
Strengthening Brazilian wine culture
The current movement goes beyond consumption: it represents a cultural shift that values national production. Wine bars like Vino! help drive this recognition by showcasing a wide variety of Brazilian labels and giving visibility to producers from different regions.
“By presenting such a broad selection of Brazilian wines, we show that the country has the diversity and quality to compete internationally,” Zanette concludes.
