Feira Nacional do Podrão returns to Duque de Caxias Jan 23–25 with oversized street-food icons, live music and a kids zone at Praça Humaitá.
Now in its 33rd edition, the event takes over Praça Humaitá in Jardim 25 de Agosto, a public square recently refurbished by the city government and the Municipal Secretariat of Culture and Tourism. The revamped leisure area includes a basketball court, soccer field, skate track, games and community play spaces.
Oversized bites and Rio’s suburb classics
For fans of Brazil’s street-food culture, this weekend is all about the legendary “podrões” — big, bold, and unapologetically indulgent. One of the headliners is the Batata Frita de Marechal Hermes, a beloved snack from Rio’s suburbs and officially recognized as Material Cultural Heritage of the City of Rio de Janeiro.
Visitors can also find crowd favorites like the “Three-Kilo Burger,” “Two-Kilo Coxinha,” barbecue, the “Two-Kilo Acarajé,” a 120-centimeter hot dog, a churros tower and rolled ice cream (“Sorvete na Chapa”). The fair brings together around 20 exhibitors, including local vendors.
A renovated Praça Humaitá as the backdrop
City Hall says the choice of venue is part of a broader push to keep public spaces busy with family-friendly activities. “Hosting another edition of Feira Nacional do Podrão in Duque de Caxias is always a joy, especially at Praça Humaitá, which has a brand-new look and was completely renovated. We want our streets and squares full of life, with residents and their families. Caxias is ready to welcome all kinds of events, and Podrão will be another success,” says Mayor Netinho Reis.
Project creator and promoter Suzanne Malta — a digital influencer behind the @ondecomernorio profile — celebrates the return. “We’re happy to bring Feira do Podrão back to Duque de Caxias. We’re sure it will be a major event, like the previous editions in the city,” she says, alongside partner and producer Filipe Machado.
Aroldo Brito, the Municipal Secretary of Culture and Tourism, highlights the community spirit. “Our partnership with Feira Nacional do Podrão will deliver another successful edition in our city. It’s going to be a weekend full of culture, food, families together and lots of excitement for the people of Caxias. Our residents and workers deserve this care,” he notes.
DJ sets, samba/pagode and a supervised kids zone
Admission is free. The Feira Nacional do Podrão features DJ-led programming throughout the weekend, plus samba and pagode performances by Dez Mais and D’Início. The vibe draws on hits associated with beloved Brazilian acts such as Exaltasamba, Raça Negra, Sorriso Maroto, Pixote, Belo, Art Popular, Katinguelê, Só Pra Contrariar, Revelação, Jorge Aragão and Zeca Pagodinho.
Families will find a dedicated children’s area with monitors and inflatable attractions. The announced lineup includes a mechanical bull, a giant slide, “Discoplay,” an inflatable alligator, trampolines and bounce houses, among other options.
