Vino! highlights five Carménère labels to celebrate the date with Chilean and Brazilian options.
This Monday (24), the world celebrates International Carménère Day, honoring one of the most iconic grape varieties in the wine universe. Known for its smooth profile, ripe fruit aromas and spicy notes, the grape thrives especially in Chile, where it found ideal conditions to express its character.
The variety also appears in Brazilian and other regional productions, winning consumers through its elegance, creaminess and versatility in pairings.
“Carménère is a grape full of personality, with silky tannins and a great ability to please both beginners and experienced wine lovers. It delivers aromatic, engaging and easy-to-pair wines,” says Raphael Zanette, founder of Vino!.
To celebrate the date, Vino! selected five labels that reflect the grape’s vibrant color, full-bodied profile and velvety texture.
Mosqueteros Carménère
Produced in Chile’s Central Valley, it shows deep ruby color and aromas of ripe red fruits such as raspberry and cherry. On the palate, it is balanced, with sweet tannins and barrel aging that adds complexity. Its boutique production and stony, clay soils enhance the wine’s elegance.
Mosqueteros Family Reserve Carménère
From the Rapel Valley, this wine offers a deeper and more sophisticated profile, with aromas of dark fruits, spices and hints of dark chocolate. On the palate, it is structured, full-bodied and aromatically intense, representing the region’s more robust Carménère style.
Laura Hartwig Single Vineyard Carménère
Produced in a single vineyard in Colchagua Valley, it delivers aromas of black fruits, herbal notes and spices. On the palate, it has fine tannins, velvety texture and vibrant acidity, resulting in an elegant and persistent wine.
Montes Alpha Carménère
A Chilean classic, it blends Carménère with a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon. It features aromas of plum, fig, nutmeg, tobacco and a light touch of leather. On the palate, it offers soft tannins, ripe fruits and long persistence due to aging in French oak.
Giaretta Carménère
A Brazilian example from Campanha Gaúcha, it shows aromas of black pepper, dark fruits, chocolate and coffee. On the palate, it is balanced, with mature tannins, velvety texture, good acidity and a delicate finish.
The labels are available at the brand’s units. Check availability in each region.
