Lecadô saved 14 tons of food in 2025

In 2025, Lecadô prevented 14 tons of food from being discarded with Food To Save and cut over 35 tons of CO₂, the chain says.

The newly released figures from Lecadô compile efforts across stores, its production site, and offices, targeting food waste prevention and better waste management.

Food waste prevention partnership

In stores, the initiative centers on Food To Save’s “Surprise Bags,” which sell items close to their best-by date at discounted prices, a practical way to reduce waste while keeping products in circulation.

Customers can pick up their bags in-store or choose home delivery. Over 14,000 Surprise Bags were sold in 2025, reinforcing the brand’s push for day-to-day sustainability.

CO₂ avoided and environmental impact

Combined, the actions allegedly avoided more than 35 tons of CO₂ emissions. The impact is described as equivalent to planting 4.8 million trees or the annual electricity consumption of 15 million homes.

Why surplus happens anyway

According to Agata Russo, Lecadô’s Marketing Manager, even strict inventory control still leads to surplus because the company works with fresh products, no preservatives, and shorter shelf life, while keeping cakes, desserts, and savory items available until the end of each day.

She adds that buying a Surprise Bag means receiving tasty, high-quality Lecadô products without knowing the exact selection in advance—turning a purchase into a step against waste.

Solid waste: PGR and recycling

Beyond food, Lecadô says its environmental policy aims to minimize solid waste generation. The company operates a Waste Management Plan (PGR) that includes sorting and proper disposal of cardboard boxes, egg cartons, plastic filling buckets, and used cooking oil, routed to recycling through partners such as Koleta Ambiental.

“We believe sustainability is a shared responsibility and that every small action matters,” Russo says, linking the brand’s celebratory moments to the need for real-world responsibility in the face of hunger and environmental degradation.
