A symbol of innovation and sophistication, the Miolo Cuvée Under the Sea has just won the 2025 Grandes Cases de Embalagem Award, one of the most prestigious recognitions in the packaging sector. The award celebrates projects that combine technology, sustainability, design and consumer experience, and the piece developed by UNT Design from a concept created by Miolo perfectly expresses the essence of this sparkling wine matured for one year on the seabed of France.

More than protection, the packaging was designed to reveal a story. Inspired by a lighthouse lens, the structure allows the bottle—preserved after resisting ocean depths—to remain visible while being framed as a collectible artifact. Every detail reinforces the connection between land, sea and people, the core concept behind this aspirational sparkling wine.

The project blends technology, design and purpose. From material selection to the opening experience, every element highlights the uniqueness of a wine shaped by time and the ocean. The piece includes an illustrated map marking the exact point of Ouessant Island, in Brittany, where the 504 bottles of the 2014 vintage remained submerged between October 2016 and November 2017, at a depth of 60 meters.

The trophy, designed by Karim Rashid, reinforces the innovative spirit of the award, which since 2010 has highlighted the country’s best packaging solutions, recognizing ideas that reimagine how products are presented and experienced by consumers.

The sparkling wine shaped by the ocean

The story of Miolo Cuvée Under the Sea began as a tribute to the global presence of Brazilian sparkling wine. In 2016, after reaching the milestone of 100,000 bottles exported, Miolo submerged the batch in France, reviving a European tradition of aging wines under the sea, inspired by bottles recovered intact from shipwrecks.

The batch was lifted one year later and has since rested in the winery’s underground cellar in Vale dos Vinhedos, completing 10 years of aging. Each bottle, sold for R$ 3,500, comes with a certificate of origin and the iconic packaging signed by UNT Design.
