Creamy polenta and seafood ravioli: Rio Gastronomia hosts free live cooking classes in São Gonçalo and Niterói on Jan 17–18 at 2 pm.
Led by O GLOBO, the initiative brings the festival’s energy to public squares across Guanabara Bay. Chefs Danilo Parah (Rudä, Maskä and Ízär) and Bruno Marasco (Antica Trattoria Marasco) will teach exclusive recipes, with journalist Renata Monty moderating both sessions.
What each class will teach
On Saturday (Jan 17), São Gonçalo welcomes Danilo Parah at Praça Zé Garoto. He will cook a creamy white-corn polenta topped with a sausage ragù, sharing technique-focused tips designed for home cooks.
On Sunday (Jan 18), the spotlight moves to Niterói at Praça Getúlio Vargas, where Bruno Marasco demonstrates his “ravioli jurujuba,” a pasta dish served with a fish-and-shrimp sauce that nods to the region’s coastal flavors.
At both events, attendees can watch the dish come together step by step, ask questions during the demo, and taste the final recipe alongside the chef.
How to join
To take part, visitors must register 30 minutes before the class starts, at the venue itself. Admission is free, but seating is limited and subject to capacity.
More than a festival
Known as Brazil’s biggest food event, Rio Gastronomia also positions itself as a platform that celebrates local food culture. The free classes are part of a broader set of actions designed to connect restaurants, chefs, industry professionals and the wider public.
The Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro and the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy, through the state cultural incentive law, present the Rio Gastronomia live classes. The actions are offered by Enel, with master sponsorship by Naturgy, sponsorship by the State Secretariat for Culture and Creative Economy, support from Três Corações coffee, production by RKF, and organized by O GLOBO.
