Rio’s boldest food fair crosses the city limits

One of Rio de Janeiro’s most beloved food events is expanding its reach. The 34th edition of the Feira Nacional do Podrão — Brazil’s famous “junk food fair” — makes its debut in Nova Iguaçu on March 6, 7, and 8 (Friday through Sunday), at the Pedreira parking area of Shopping Nova Iguaçu, conveniently located near the Via Dutra and Via Light expressways.

The event’s creator answered fans who had been asking for years. “We are thrilled to bring the Feira Nacional do Podrão to Nova Iguaçu for the first time. We’re sure it will be a huge success in the capital of the Baixada Fluminense,” says Suzanne Malta, founder, promoter, and digital influencer behind @ondecomernorio, alongside producer Filipe Machado.

A menu built for the bold

Fan favorites return in full force: a 3kg Burger, a 2kg Coxinha (deep-fried chicken dumpling), a 120cm Hot Dog, a 2kg Acarajé, Churrasco, Northeastern Brazilian cuisine, a Churros Tower, and grilled ice cream are just some of the highlights spread across 20 vendors.

New additions for this edition push the creativity even further: the Coxinha Burger, Coxinha Bouquet, and Burger Pizza make their debut, giving regulars plenty of new reasons to fill their plates.

“The Feira Nacional do Podrão brings to Shopping Nova Iguaçu the full authenticity and flavor of urban food culture. We believe strongly in the power of food as a meeting point, and hosting an event like this is a way to connect even more deeply with our audience’s tastes and traditions. Beyond delivering a fun and personality-filled experience, the fair reinforces the shopping center as a true gathering space, where gastronomy, entertainment, and great moments come together.” — Luciane Treigher, Sales Marketing Manager, Shopping Nova Iguaçu

Fun for the whole family

Kids are well catered for with a dedicated supervised play area featuring inflatable rides: a mechanical bull, giant slide, discoplay, inflatable crocodile, trampoline, and bounce house, among others.

Live music keeps the energy high across all three days. Dez Mais and D’Início bring samba and pagode rhythms, while rock bands Mamonas Assassinas (cover) and Protocolo B deliver the best of ’80s and ’90s classics.
