Over 330 reservations secured weeks before Carnival: Rubaiyat Rio filled every one of its 350 seats on Champions’ Parade Saturday.
The buzz around Rubaiyat Rio, set inside the Brazilian Jockey Club in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood, has become a reliable gauge of just how packed Rio de Janeiro gets during Carnival season. Locals and tourists alike raced to book a table for the February 21st lunch — the same day as the Champions’ Parade at the Sambódromo.
As early as January, the restaurant had already logged more than 330 confirmed reservations for that single Saturday. Faced with that level of demand, management decided to close the waiting list to avoid disappointing walk-in guests — although a handful of hopeful diners still showed up ready to wait.
The beloved beef rib is back
Adding to the celebration, Rubaiyat Rio brought back its signature slow-roasted beef rib (costelão) to the Saturday feijoada self-service spread — a move that longtime regulars had been waiting for. The Saturday menu also features the restaurant’s celebrated dessert buffet, now refreshed with new offerings while keeping all the crowd favorites.
The venue holds up to 350 guests, with 160 seats on a sweeping veranda offering a front-row view of the Christ the Redeemer statue and the Jockey Club’s racetracks. By the end of last Saturday’s service, there was not an empty chair in sight.
