Rio’s beloved Sebastian Gastrobar in Baixo Gávea celebrates its 4th anniversary on April 16 with a Spanish tapas festival, exclusive cocktails, and a relaxed carioca vibe.
Tucked into one of Rio de Janeiro’s most bohemian neighborhoods, Sebastian Gastrobar marks four years with a night built around what the house does best: bringing Spanish cuisine together with the easygoing spirit of Rio. The Tapas Festival takes place on April 16, starting at 6 PM, with small plates designed for sharing, tasting, and lingering over good drinks.
A Menu Built for Sharing
The festival menu covers a wide range of classic tapas formats. Pastéis (Brazilian-style fried pastries with a Spanish twist) come in three flavors at R$12 each: shrimp with sour cream, sun-dried beef with coalho cheese, and cheese. Croquetas, also R$12, arrive in four versions: jamón, shrimp, paella, and salt cod.
Baguette toasts offer three combinations at R$12: Tosta Selvagem, Tosta de Punheta de Bacalhau, and Tosta Espagnoli. The pinchos — the iconic Spanish skewers — cover six options. Gambas al Ajillo, jamón with cantaloupe melon, breaded shrimp with aioli, and breaded squid with caramelized onion aioli are priced at R$12. Herb-roasted tomato with olive oil and parmesan, along with the classic Gilda (anchovy, olive, and pepper skewer), are R$9. Patatas bravas (R$16) and mussels in vinaigrette (R$22) round out the menu.
Three Signature Cocktails
Three exclusive cocktails were created for the anniversary, all priced at R$36. Sonho de 82 blends vodka, Cynar, honey, lime, and mint. Paixão de Barcelona combines vodka, crème de cassis, pitaya, and lime. Medusa brings together gin, Peachtree, orange juice, sparkling water, and fresh cilantro leaves.
Four Years in Rio’s Heart
“Being in Baixo Gávea, one of the most traditional gathering spots for cariocas, says a lot about Sebastian. The relaxed atmosphere, with tables on the sidewalk and people coming together to eat and drink well, is a perfect match for the tapas concept, where you can try a little of everything. The festival celebrates these four years by bringing Spanish flavors that speak to the carioca palate.”
