In the heart of Rio’s Historic Center, Sobrado da Cidade has launched “Bernardo & Motta”, its new signature couvert featuring cornmeal pastel, pumpkin brioche and a butter candle in a menu that celebrates Brazilian flavours and artisanal techniques.
The name, an affectionate in-house tribute, gives identity to a selection that reflects the restaurant’s core: creative cuisine, Brazilian ingredients and meticulous craftsmanship.
A sequence of small, connected tastings
Priced at R$ 49, “Bernardo & Motta” offers a set of small experiences designed to complement one another.
The journey begins with a light, delicate cornmeal pastel filled with Canastra cheese and banana blossom.
The combination evokes countryside cooking memories while showcasing lesser-used Brazilian ingredients.
Next, the pumpkin brioche arrives at the table accompanied by a charming clarified butter candle.
As it slowly melts, the candle releases aroma and warmth, turning into one of the guests’ favourite rituals.
The selection is completed by wild boar salami, coriander pesto and a creamy guava and cachaça spread.
Together, they layer savoury, herbal and sweet notes into a balanced tasting experience.
A gastronomic calling card
At Sobrado da Cidade, “Bernardo & Motta” is more than a simple starter.
The couvert works as a gastronomic calling card, introducing the kitchen’s style before the main courses arrive.
The selection was crafted to spark curiosity, awaken the palate and prepare guests for the restaurant’s broader proposal.
The menu combines Brazilian ingredients, solid technique and a strong dose of emotion and hospitality.
Heritage setting with a contemporary touch
Housed in a 19th-century building, Sobrado da Cidade blends history, a charming atmosphere and contemporary gastronomy.
The “Bernardo & Motta” couvert reinforces this hybrid identity, where the past inspires and the present surprises.
The preserved architecture frames a culinary approach that champions artisanal technique and Brazilian flavours.
