Every year on March 21, the world celebrates World Tiramisù Day. The dessert born in the Veneto region of Italy has earned a place on tables across the globe, thanks to its irresistible balance of bitter espresso, creamy mascarpone, and a dusting of cocoa. In Rio de Janeiro, celebrated chefs are serving everything from textbook-perfect originals to creative reinventions featuring miso and almond praline.

The Purist’s Choice

Babbo Osteria, in Ipanema, keeps it faithful with its classic Tiramisù for R$ 39 — made with sponge cake, mascarpone cream, espresso, and cocoa. It is a well-balanced, coffee-forward dessert that traditionalists will love.

At Giuseppe Grill, in Leblon, the signature touch is the exclusive Nolita coffee used to soak the ladyfingers, lending an intense, memorable aroma to the R$ 36 dessert.

Nido Ristorante, also in Leblon, rounds out the classics with chef Rudy Bovo‘s traditional Tiramisù at R$ 50, featured in the restaurant’s Dolci section — a benchmark of Italian authenticity in the city.

Artisan and House-Made

At Ferro e Farinha, chef Sei Shiromam presents The Ferro Tiramisu (R$ 39): a fully artisan version using house-made mascarpone, cocoa, and wood-fired biscotti soaked in espresso and cognac. Every element is crafted in-house, and it shows.

House-made mascarpone, wood-fired biscotti, espresso, and cognac — every detail is deliberate.

Creative Reinterpretations

Chef Andrea Tinoco brings one of the most inventive versions to the table at Pato com Laranja, in Leblon. Her Tira-misô (R$ 36) uses the classic base — espresso-soaked biscuits and mascarpone cream — but adds a subtle miso touch that creates a compelling sweet-savory balance, finished with cocoa powder.

At Casa Horto, in the Jardim Botânico neighborhood, chef Yan Spadafori reimagines the dessert with toffee sauce and almond praline (R$ 42), adding crunch and caramel depth to the traditional creaminess.

The newest entry on the scene, Giappo — chef Nao Hara‘s restaurant at the Jockey Club in Gávea — offers a Tiramissú (R$ 55) with chocolate sauce and dulce de leche ice cream, a nod to Brazilian flavor sensibilities without sacrificing elegance.
