Over 1,800 consultations since January. ACB brings a free ophthalmology clinic — with specialist, exams, and complete glasses — to Bairro Goiá on Feb. 21.
Free specialist care and glasses on-site
The Associação Comunidade Batista (ACB) hosts a new edition of its Mutirão da Visão (Vision Outreach) this Saturday, February 21, in the Bairro Goiá neighborhood of Goiânia. The event runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Assembleia de Deus Campinas Goiá.
Residents will have free access to a licensed ophthalmologist, full eye exams, and — when prescribed — complete glasses (frames and lenses) chosen on the spot. Service is first-come, first-served, with numbered tickets distributed up to the team’s daily capacity.
Numbers that expose a hidden crisis
The 2025 outreach season has already left a significant mark across Goiânia. On January 10, at Escola Municipal Madre Francisca in Residencial Pedroso, the team completed 412 consultations and delivered 326 pairs of glasses. On January 24, at the Setor Novo Horizonte sports arena, the numbers climbed to 459 consultations and 388 glasses.
The January 31 event in Leste Vila Nova set the season’s high mark: 594 consultations and 537 glasses distributed in a single day. The most recent edition, on February 7 in Setor Vera Cruz II, registered 432 consultations and 364 prescriptions issued for complete eyewear.
Combined, the four events surpass 1,800 consultations and more than 1,600 pairs of glasses delivered — figures that also reveal something sobering: many participants had never had an eye exam before in their lives.
Preventive health as a core mission
Our goal is to deliver preventive healthcare, ease the burden on the public health system, and raise awareness about the importance of ongoing eye care. Many people receive access to this kind of specialist for the very first time at our outreach events. Diogo Marquez, Executive Director, ACB
The program runs on private partnerships that fund the eyewear production, alongside volunteer healthcare professionals committed to the project’s social impact. For 2025, ACB plans to expand the number of editions and add services such as vocational counseling, dental care, and specialist referrals, supported by parliamentary funding and public-sector partnerships.
The Associação Comunidade Batista is a nonprofit civil society organization recognized as Municipal Public Utility. It operates mobile projects in health, education, and productive inclusion across multiple regions of Goiânia.
