At CES 2026, the L’Oréal Group, the global beauty leader, strengthened its position in beauty tech by introducing two innovations that harness the power of infrared light for haircare and skincare. The Light Straight + Multi-styler and the LED Face Mask were both honored with CES 2026 Innovation Awards, underscoring the group’s strategy of combining science, technology and personalization in beauty.

“At L’Oréal Group, we have always believed that beauty is deeply linked to scientific discovery, a conviction that has driven the company since its founding more than 115 years ago. Today, we tirelessly combine the latest scientific and technological breakthroughs with our creativity to develop beauty experiences that are more effective, more innovative and tailored to individual needs. This year, our pioneering progress in light-based technologies showcased at CES 2026 once again reinforces our commitment to pushing the boundaries of new beauty solutions,” says Barbara Lavernos, Deputy CEO in charge of Research, Innovation and Technology at L’Oréal Group.

Light Straight + Multi-styler brings infrared to styling

Hair straighteners have been part of styling routines for over a century, but conventional hot plates can reach 400°F (around 204°C), above the point where keratin denatures, leading to weakened cuticles, breakage and loss of shine. In a 2024 consumer study conducted by L’Oréal in the United States, 58% of women surveyed said they believed their hair damage was caused by heat.

Developed by L’Oréal’s Research & Innovation teams, the Light Straight + Multi-styler uses patented infrared light technology to deliver high-performance styling at lower temperatures, helping to preserve hair health. Its glass plates straighten hair effectively without exceeding 320°F (about 160°C), a significant reduction compared with most traditional straighteners. Instrumental tests by L’Oréal show that the device works 3 times faster and leaves hair 2 times smoother than leading premium stylers.

The user experience is powered by advanced science and engineering. This portable device relies on near-infrared light, a wavelength just beyond the visible spectrum, to penetrate deep into the hair fiber and reshape internal hydrogen bonds, the molecular structures that define hair shape and texture. As a result, it helps preserve fiber integrity, keeping the cuticle smoother, shinier and more resistant while achieving the desired finish.

“The Light Straight + Multi-styler takes hair styling beyond repair and into prevention. By limiting cumulative heat exposure and preserving the hair’s natural integrity from the start, we empower consumers to protect their hair now and in the future. We believe this innovation sets a new benchmark, not only improving but redefining the entire haircare styling category,” says Guive Balooch, Global Vice President of Augmented Beauty and Open Innovation at L’Oréal Group and member of the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) Industry Leaders Board.

Key benefits of the Light Straight + Multi-styler include its patented infrared technology and light module, whose proprietary design ensures an ultra-smooth effect, long-lasting results and consistent performance. The device also offers multi-styling versatility, straightening, smoothing and creating curls with precision, as well as personalized results via internal smart sensors, proprietary algorithms and machine learning that adapt to user movements.

With the arrival of the Light Straight + Multi-styler, L’Oréal now offers a complete infrared light styling routine that also includes Airlight Pro, first introduced at CES 2024. The device is expected to launch globally in 2027, with further details, including pricing, to be shared at https://loreal.com.

LED Face Mask targets visible signs of aging

Reinforcing its beauty tech leadership and its focus on longevity science applied to beauty, L’Oréal Group also announced the LED Face Mask at CES 2026, another CES 2026 Innovation Award winner in the skincare devices category.

The ultrathin, flexible silicone mask, currently in prototype phase, emits light directly onto the face. Developed in partnership with iSmart, a global leader in LED device innovation, the LED Face Mask is designed to help address visible signs of aging, including fine lines, loss of firmness and uneven tone, through targeted use of red and near-infrared light.

Lightweight, flexible and non-invasive, the design is meant to fit seamlessly into a daily skincare routine, with automatically timed 10-minute sessions. According to L’Oréal, the effectiveness of the mask lies in its advanced transparent support, which incorporates a skin-safe microcircuit capable of precisely controlling the emission of two specific wavelengths: red light at 630 nm and near-infrared light at 830 nm.

These wavelengths work to promote skin that looks visibly firmer and smoother while helping to even out skin tone. The LED Face Mask is expected to launch in 2027, with more information, including pricing, available at https://loreal.com. In the United States, the launch is subject to the FDA 510(k) premarket notification process.
