Campaign raises awareness against violence, child labor and antivaccine attitudes, defending youth health and rights.
The Silver November campaign — themed “Rights of Children and Adolescents: we are all equal!” — calls attention to the full protection of children and adolescents in Brazil, as established by the Child and Adolescent Statute (ECA). Its goal is to mobilize society, educators, and health professionals to defend the physical and mental well-being of the younger population and ensure their fundamental rights.
A call against all forms of violence
The campaign addresses issues such as child labor, disappearances, abuse, sexual violence, parental alienation, toxic stress and vaccination rights. Pediatrician Antonio Carlos Turner, medical director of Total Kids Clinics, emphasizes the importance of raising awareness to protect both the physical and emotional health of children and teenagers.
“Children and adolescents may be smaller in size and age, but never in rights. Respecting these rights is the foundation of a fair and developed society. Child labor and other forms of violence deeply affect physical and mental development,” says Turner.
The role of pediatricians and health professionals
The campaign also reinforces the legal duty of doctors and educators to report suspected or confirmed cases of abuse. “Pediatricians must notify any sign of violence or mistreatment. Health and education professionals play a vital role in activating protection systems,” highlights Turner.
Vaccination as a right and collective responsibility
Another key topic is the right to vaccination, considered a fundamental pillar of public health. Turner warns that vaccine refusal among families poses risks not only to individual children but also to society at large.
“Refusing vaccination is both an ethical and legal issue. The State and society have the duty to ensure immunization, as stated in Article 227 of the Federal Constitution. Protecting children’s rights is everyone’s responsibility,” concludes pediatrician Antonio Carlos Turner.
