As temperatures rise, so do beach days, pool time, and long hours outdoors. With more skin exposed, a common question returns: can you keep—or even start—laser hair removal during summer? Ana Carolina Cury, a dermato-functional physical therapist and technical director at Espaçolaser, says yes—provided you follow safety protocols and get a careful professional assessment.

Why summer requires extra caution

Laser targets the hair follicle through melanin, the pigment that gives color to skin and hair. That’s why many people assume treatment must stop in summer. With the right protocols and qualified supervision, however, sessions can continue throughout the season.

Scheduling sessions around summer plans

Recommended intervals make it possible to progress even during vacations: at least 45 days between sessions for smaller areas and 60 days for larger areas.

“Good planning keeps your schedule on track and still lets you enjoy summer with fewer worries. With proper sunscreen use, skin hydration, and avoiding direct sun exposure for at least 30 days before and 7 days after sessions, results remain excellent.”

Must-follow steps before and after laser

Before your session: avoid direct sun exposure on the treatment area for at least 30 days beforehand.

Tell your provider if you’ve tanned recently or notice any change in skin color.

After your session: avoid sun exposure on the treated area for 7 days.

Keep skin well hydrated using soothing products recommended for post-laser care.

Add physical protection: a wide-brim hat, sunglasses, an umbrella, and clothing that covers the skin well—such as long cover-ups and UV-protective fabrics.

Apply SPF 30 sunscreen or higher and reapply every 2 hours, especially on beach or pool days.

Hydration matters inside out: drink water regularly to support recovery and overall skin health.

Post-session routine: what to avoid

Avoid hot showers and saunas during the first 24 hours after a session. After that, choose lukewarm showers, since hot water can increase dryness and sensitivity.

Stop using acids and exfoliants at least 7 days before and 7 days after each session to reduce irritation risk.

Food choices that support summer skin

Antioxidant-rich foods—like berries, leafy greens, carrots, and nuts—help protect against sun and pollution damage, keeping skin stronger and more even-looking.

Vitamin C stands out for supporting a more uniform tone and collagen production, strengthening the skin barrier.

Why do laser hair removal in summer?

Fewer ingrown hairs: heat can increase ingrown hairs and folliculitis, and laser helps reduce them.

More freedom: laser reduces reliance on repetitive temporary methods like shaving or waxing.

Smoother skin over time: hair tends to become finer and less frequent with each session, bringing comfort and practicality during the season.
