Reuniting after their acclaimed project “Villa-Lobos Popular,” pianist Amilton Godoy and harmonica virtuoso Gabriel Grossi return with “Os Filhos de Villa,” set for digital release on March 5, along with a limited vinyl edition. The album celebrates the living legacy of Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Across nine instrumental tracks, the duo builds bridges between Villa-Lobos and his “musical heirs” — Tom Jobim, Egberto Gismonti, Johnny Alf, Guinga, Paulinho Nogueira, and Maurício Einhorn. Through reinterpretations and two original compositions, they explore how Villa’s hybrid of classical and popular idioms continues to shape Brazilian sound.

“Villa composed classical music with a popular soul — it’s that living intersection we explore,” notes the project statement.

The album highlights the creative dialogue between piano and harmonica, mixing improvisation, lyricism, and refined musical storytelling. It also marks a milestone for Amilton Godoy, who celebrates 85 years of life and over seven decades of artistic career, side by side with one of today’s greatest harmonica players, Gabriel Grossi.

Produced by DG Produções and Tudo Bem Produções, “Os Filhos de Villa” was supported by São Paulo’s 8th Music Support Program and realized by the Municipal Department of Culture.

Tracklist: “Loro” (Egberto Gismonti), “Chovendo na Roseira” (Tom Jobim), “Choro” (Amilton Godoy), “Bachianinhas nº 1” (Paulinho Nogueira), “The Girl from Ipanema” (Tom Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes), “Rapaz de Bem” (Johnny Alf), “De Coração” (Gabriel Grossi), “Batida Diferente” (Durval Ferreira / Maurício Einhorn), “Choro pro Zé” (Aldir Blanc / Guinga).
