On Saturday, December 6, at 8 p.m., the Cultural Center of UFG hosts the concert that concludes the Allegro Series 2025, featuring acclaimed pianist Cristian Budu. A winner of the Clara Haskil International Competition (Switzerland) and the Concerto of the Year Award (Guia da Folha), Budu presents a program celebrating the dialogue between European and Brazilian musical traditions.

Trained at the University of São Paulo and the New England Conservatory in Boston, Budu is known for his emotive interpretations and intellectual depth. This concert marks his return to Goiânia after ten years, when he last performed as a soloist with the Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra.

A program of contrasts and connections

The evening’s program will feature works by Chopin, Schumann, Debussy, Guarnieri, Villa-Lobos, Itiberê, Gnattali, and Tia Amélia. “Music transcends classifications — music is simply music,” says Budu. “I hope to show the richness of different traditions and the piano’s ability to unite diverse languages.”

The repertoire aims to bridge classic European works with the vibrancy of Brazilian composers, highlighting stylistic dialogues that define Budu’s approach to performance.

An international career

Born in Diadema, São Paulo, Cristian Budu began piano studies at an early age and studied with masters including Elsa Klebanowski, Eduardo Monteiro, and Wha-Kyung Byun. He has performed at major venues such as the Lucerne KKL and Boston’s Jordan Hall, as well as international festivals like Verbier and La Roque D’Anthéron.

Budu has appeared as soloist with orchestras including the Lucerne Symphony, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, and the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne. A devoted chamber musician, he has collaborated with Antonio Meneses, Renaud Capuçon, and members of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Residing between Paris and São Paulo, Budu serves as Artistic Director of the Watari Chamber Music Festival (Campinas) and co-curator of the SESC International Chamber Music Festival. He also supports social projects related to music and education, such as Projeto Integração and Liga Solidária.
