A fusion of culture, spirituality and environment

The samba group Canto de Amigos, with over 30 years of history, releases the song and video “Deusa das Águas” on December 2. The work honors the sacred feminine, the ancestral power of water, and Afro-Brazilian spirituality, revisiting symbols of fertility, healing and protection. Filmed in Ponta Negra, Maricá, the video connects nature, identity and collective memory.

Directed by Bruno Cintra and Walace do Rosário, the production uses light, color and movement to translate the spiritual energy of the song. Singer Paula Princi’s participation enriches the emotional tone and the symbolic power of water in the narrative.

Meaning and ancestry

Composer and lead singer Jorge Nascimento says this release represents a special chapter for the group:

“Deusa das Águas is more than a music video; it’s an ancestral call. When we wrote it, we felt the waters guiding us: the calm river, the generous sea, the strength of the current. Oxum and Iemanjá symbolize care, strength and beauty, and this work is our way of offering gratitude to them and to life.”

Tribute to the Omìayê project

The release also honors the Omìayê project, a social technology initiative that transforms used cooking oil into eco-friendly soaps and detergents. So far, it has prevented the contamination of over 50 million liters of water and distributed sustainable products to thousands of families.

According to the Singular Ideias Inovadoras Institute, which manages Omìayê, the tribute reflects the role of culture in promoting sustainability:

“When art embraces environmental care and highlights our community work, it expands the reach of our mission. Omìayê proves that simple, local actions can generate meaningful environmental and social results.”

By uniting music, territory and environmental action, “Deusa das Águas” reinforces the idea that preserving water means preserving life, memory and the future of communities.
