Dire Straits Legacy performs Dire Straits classics at Qualistage, Rio de Janeiro, on November 14.
Celebrated for reviving the authentic sound of Dire Straits, Dire Straits Legacy (DSL) returns to Brazil for a new series of concerts. The Rio de Janeiro performance takes place at Qualistage, bringing together musicians from different phases of the legendary British band.
With a sound faithful to the group’s roots, the show promises to thrill fans of all generations with hits such as “Money for Nothing”, “So Far Away”, “Sultans of Swing”, “Walk of Life”, and “Romeo and Juliet”, among others. The lineup includes Alan Clark (keyboards), Phil Palmer (guitar), Mel Collins (saxophone), Marco Caviglia (vocals and guitar), Danny Cummings (percussion and vocals), and Steve Walters (bass).
About Dire Straits Legacy
Formed by members from different periods of Dire Straits’ history, DSL keeps the timeless music of the band alive, performing classics like “Tunnel of Love,” “When It Comes to You,” “You and Your Friend,” and “On Every Street.” In addition, the project includes new compositions, showing the group’s continuous musical evolution.
The musicians
Alan Clark joined Dire Straits in 1980 as its main keyboardist and co-produced the band’s final album, *On Every Street*. He has also worked with Eric Clapton and served as Tina Turner’s musical director.
Phil Palmer, musical director and guitarist, played with Dire Straits from 1990 to 1992. With more than 450 albums recorded, he has worked with Eric Clapton, George Michael, and Rod Stewart.
Mel Collins was part of Dire Straits between 1983 and 1985, featured on *Alchemy Live Album* and *Twisting By The Pool*. He is also a founding member of King Crimson.
Danny Cummings joined the band in 1990, playing on *On Every Street*. He has also worked with Tina Turner, Bryan Adams, and Mark Knopfler’s solo projects.
Marco Caviglia, Italian singer and guitarist, founded the band Solid Rock in 1988 and toured with Steve Phillips from Notting Hillbillies. He is known as the leading interpreter of Mark Knopfler’s repertoire.
Steve Walters, British bassist, studied with Jaco Pastorius and has worked with Jimmy Cliff, Mariah Carey, Pet Shop Boys, Chaka Khan, and Amy Winehouse.
