Festival Palco Brasil celebrates Afro-Brazilian music at CAIXA Cultural Rio

Sandra Sá, Larissa Luz, Joyce Alane, Chico César, and Teresa Cristina perform at Festival Palco Brasil, from November 20 to 30.

Celebrating Black Awareness Month, the Festival Palco Brasil arrives at CAIXA Cultural Rio de Janeiro, in the Teatro Nelson Rodrigues, featuring performances that highlight the Afro-Brazilian strength in Brazilian music. From November 20 to 30, the event brings together renowned names of MPB, soul, samba, and rock, uniting different generations and styles on the same stage.

Opening with Larissa Luz and soul nights with Sandra Sá

After touring Salvador, Fortaleza, São Paulo, and Recife, the festival debuts in Rio on Thursday, November 20, at 6 p.m., with “Larissa Luz: Rock in Gil”. The Bahian artist revisits Gilberto Gil’s classics like “Pessoa Nefasta,” “Cérebro Eletrônico,” and “Tempo Rei,” blending rock and Afro-Brazilian rhythms in a powerful live performance.

The Queen of Soul, Sandra Sá, performs on November 21 and 22, presenting hits such as “Olhos Coloridos,” “Joga Fora,” and “Retratos e Canções,” reaffirming her place as one of Brazil’s greatest voices in soul and funk.

New generation and MPB tributes

On Sunday, November 23, at 6 p.m., Pernambuco-born singer-songwriter Joyce Alane represents the new generation with songs from her 2024 album “Tudo é Minha Culpa”, featuring collaborations with João Gomes and ÀTTØØXXÁ. Her music blends urban pop, northeastern poetry, and Afro-Brazilian rhythms.

The following week, Chico César performs on November 27 and 28, revisiting his iconic 1995 album “Aos Vivos”, featuring “Beradêro” and “Mama África.” The festival closes with Teresa Cristina, who performs “Paulinho 80+20” on November 29 and 30, honoring samba legend Paulinho da Viola.

Palco Brasil: music, memory, and diversity

Curated by Fernanda Bezerra, Palco Brasil is a music and memory project that, since 2017, has occupied CAIXA Cultural theaters across Brazil. The festival promotes democratic access to music, bringing together established and emerging artists in intimate performances. The 2025 edition is part of the celebration of CAIXA Cultural’s 45th anniversary.
