Brazilian rapper Filipe Ret becomes the first artist in rap and trap to surpass 10 billion streams, according to Luminate.
The Rio-born rapper has achieved a historic feat in Brazilian music: 10 billion digital plays. Data from global analytics firm Luminate account only for monetized streams since 2019, excluding platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
This milestone places Ret among only 13 Brazilian artists who have ever reached that number. It marks the consolidation of rap and trap as major cultural and economic pillars in Brazil’s music scene, traditionally led by sertanejo and pop acts.
From street battles to fame
Born in Rio’s Catete neighborhood, Filipe Ret started in freestyle battles across Lapa and Glória. Today, he leads Brazil’s rap and trap scene with 8.9 million monthly Spotify listeners and a social media audience of over 25.5 million fans.
Across his 15-year career, he has earned 135 certifications and released nine albums, including Nume Epílogo (2025). In 2024, he spent over 150 consecutive days at the top of Spotify Brazil’s rap charts.
Business mindset and brand power
Ret built a strong brand through his label Nadamal, a creative hub for artists and producers. His online presence includes 11 million followers on Instagram, 3.3 million on YouTube (2.7 billion views), and 2.2 million on TikTok.
On stage, he’s equally powerful. His anniversary tour FRXV Ao Vivo visited over 100 cities, drawing 1.5 million fans. Today, Ret commands up to R$ 500,000 per show, a remarkable rise from his early days earning R$ 500 per gig.
The new Brazilian music landscape
This milestone comes as the Brazilian music industry grows 21.7% in 2024, reaching R$ 3.4 billion in revenue, according to Pro-Música Brasil. Streaming now accounts for 87.6% of total profits, showing a fast-moving digital transition.
