Musician and composer Gabriel Gabrera will release the single ‘Mantiqueira’ on November 28, featuring violist, composer, and researcher Ivan Vilela. The song will be available on major streaming platforms.
With lyrics by Vinicius Guimarães and music by Gabriel Gabrera, ‘Mantiqueira’ depicts life on the farm, connection to the land, inspiring landscapes, and the strength and resistance of the Puri indigenous people who still inhabit Serra da Mantiqueira. The chorus includes “Boacé Uchô,” meaning “word-land”.
The recording took place at Estúdio AbreuRoad in Pedralva (MG), with Gabriel Gabrera (vocals, guitar, bass) and José Abreu (vocals, percussion, mixing, and mastering). Ivan Vilela performed on viola caipira. Cover art by Tainá Manrique.
Gabrera was born in São José dos Campos and has lived in Itajubá (MG), Vilela’s hometown. Vilela praises Gabrera’s work for combining lyrics and music, evoking regional micro-stories and honoring the legacy of rural rock and Brazilian popular music.
