Free show features Jazz das Minas and Ifátókí Maíra Freitas in afro-samba-jazz at Sesc Consolação, with masterclass the following day.
On Tuesday, November 18 at 7 PM, Instrumental Sesc Brasil hosts Jazz das Minas and pianist Ifátókí Maíra Freitas, celebrating the power of Black female music. The all-female ensemble blends afro-samba-jazz, ancestry, and innovation in original arrangements. The show takes place at Teatro Anchieta, Sesc Consolação, with live streaming on ISB’s YouTube channel.
“We play jazz because it is free. Like our bodies, skin, gender — and sound. We invent arrangements and subvert genres,” says Ifátókí Maíra Freitas, musical director of the group. The repertoire combines freedom, identity, and musical expressiveness.
The band debuted in Luanda in 2019 and has since performed across Brazil, including Sesc Jazz, Montreux Jazz Festival, and Circuito Sesc. Members include Ifátókí Maíra Freitas (piano and musical direction), Flavia Belchior (drums), Sara Leite (trumpet), Monica Avila (sax and flute), Paula Pardon (double bass), Samara Libano (guitar), Katia Preta (trombone), and Rapha Morret (percussion).
On Wednesday, November 19, from 7 PM to 9 PM, masterclass with Ifátókí Maíra Freitas takes place at Estúdio B, Sesc Consolação. The free session explores composition, improvisation, and ensemble practice, offering a collective musical experience.
Instrumental Sesc Brasil is a multiplatform project, broadcasting on SescTV, Sesc Digital app, and live on YouTube on Tuesdays, preserving a living archive of Brazilian instrumental music.
