“Intermittence” is out now as Lia Levin turns the psychology of abusive bonds into Brazilian pop, opening an EP on women’s agency.
At 40, São Paulo-born Lia Levin steps fully into the spotlight as a multidimensional performer who sings, dances, and acts. Raised in a medical family where art was the household “oxygen,” she grew up around piano melodies and movement, and she kept that creative drive alive.
Lia Levin brings psychology to “Intermittence”
In the new track, Lia examines the mechanism that can keep women trapped in abusive relationships: an unpredictable swing between harm and affection, known as intermittent reinforcement. She wrote the song with Thales Augusto Corrêa.
Sonically, the release leans into Brazilian flavor while flirting with sertanejo, brega, and bachata. Production comes from Interstella (Murilo Speratto and Thales Augusto Corrêa), balancing a heavy theme with a melodic ease built for wide listening.
A music video adds another layer, featuring actor Thomás Aquino (credited as Ronei Soares in the soap opera “Coração Acelerado”). The clip dramatizes emotional manipulation in a way that makes the concept instantly recognizable.

“From the moment I wrote the song, I pictured a video with scenes telling the story of a couple in a toxic relationship. (…) Building this clip added another layer of understanding and entertainment for the audience.”
A new EP with women at the center
“Intermittence” also signals a forthcoming EP focused on women’s protagonism and autonomy. The project aims to flip familiar narratives and place women’s perspectives at the center—without turning the message into a lecture.
That lens is rooted in her path: while medicine was a strong family tradition, Lia chose art and psychology. Trained in psychology at the University of São Paulo (USP), she says she applies what she learned daily—both in life and in her writing—turning theory into plainspoken emotion.
Her stage transition came with structure. After finishing college in 2009, she immersed herself in vocal training, theater, and dance, first through musical theater. In 2022, songwriting clicked, inspired by Marília Mendonça’s impact on contemporary women-led storytelling in music.
From a viral campaign to recent singles
In 2021, Lia expanded her artistic profile by producing and directing the Brazilian version of the global campaign #ehproblemameu (#Itsmyproblem). The film urged men to recognize how everyday language helps sustain cycles of violence, abuse, and rape, and it spread widely on social platforms and WhatsApp.
Her music debut followed in March 2023 with the album “Carta no Correio.” She then released “É Melhor Dançar” (2024) and, in 2025, “Sensual,” exploring pleasure and sensuality with a controlled aesthetic and sharp lyrical voice.
Fluent in four languages (and able to understand four more), Lia uses music as an emotional lingua franca. Now, with a women-centered narrative and a performer’s presence, she strengthens her place in the indie scene with an unmistakably autonomous point of view.
