At the Drilha de São João Gomes in Recife, Dorgival Dantas invited João Gomes to join the Derradeiro de Maio, gifting him a symbolic handmade present.
The Derradeiro de Maio festival has announced its first guest: João Gomes. The artist will share the stage with Dorgival Dantas on May 15 and 16 at the Cidade do Forró, in Olho d’Água do Borges, Rio Grande do Norte.
The invitation was made in a special moment during the “Drilha de São João Gomes” event in Recife. Dorgival surprised João with a handcrafted suitcase made by Amanda Drafts and a custom T-shirt illustrated by artist Raphael Freitas — both designed to honor the soul of the Northeast.
This partnership isn’t new. João Gomes previously took part in Dorgival’s “Raízes” DVD, and their reunion on stage promises to celebrate both tradition and the power of modern forró. “It will be great to have João with us at Derradeiro,” said the event’s creator.
Now in its fourth edition, Derradeiro de Maio has already sold out its first two ticket batches and will be broadcast across the Northeast, as well as parts of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. The event opens the São João season, bringing together big names and the essence of forró raiz.
More guest artists will be announced soon. Updates are available on the official Instagram profile @fazendatomexote.
