The first EP from the “Pagode do Julio Sereno” project arrives today with five live tracks celebrating Brazilian samba and pagode classics.
After releasing the single “Contrato de Amor,” singer and multi-instrumentalist Julio Sereno debuts the first chapter of his new audiovisual series, “Pagode do Julio Sereno,” this Wednesday (March 19) at 9 p.m. The project includes three EPs to be released throughout the year on streaming platforms.
A timeless pagode experience
Recorded live with band and audience, the audiovisual features 16 songs—a mix of covers, medleys, and original tracks. With musical direction by Léo Peçanha, the work revives the soulful energy of traditional pagode, appealing to listeners who grew up with the genre in the 1990s and 2000s.
“This project means a lot to me. It reflects my musical taste and was recorded in the neighborhood where I was born, practically in my own backyard,” shares Julio Sereno.
Tributes and reinterpretations
The EP pays tribute to icons like Diogo Nogueira, Alcione, Grupo Raça, Roberto Ribeiro, Arlindinho, Dona Ivone Lara, and Zeca Pagodinho. Among Sereno’s favorites is “Mutirão de Amor,” by Pagodinho, Jorge Aragão, and Sombrinha.
The YouTube rollout begins with “Gato Manhoso” on Friday (19) at 9 p.m., followed by weekly releases every Thursday at noon until April 13.
