Karinah premieres the “Ripiei” music video and celebrates with a samba circle at Mirante do Pedrão in Rio, fueled by summer and Carnival energy.
The singer marked a standout moment on Thursday, January 15: along with the new video release, she gathered friends and special guests in Laranjeiras for an intimate get-together designed to honor samba through music, memory, and connection.
The “Ripiei” video premiered yesterday at 6 pm on Karinah’s official YouTube channel. Written by Carlinhos Brown and André Limma, the track channels peak summer vibes, blending samba with afoxé elements for a bright, festive sound built for Carnival season.

Directed by filmmaker Bruno Murtinho — known for work with Tiago Iorc, Natiruts, Diogo Nogueira, and Vanessa da Mata — the video turns the song’s sense of celebration into vivid imagery focused on community and joy.
“When I heard ‘Ripiei’ for the first time, I was immediately taken back to the marching bands of old Guanabara Carnivals — streets filled with music, costumes, and a democratic kind of joy. The video comes from this desire to create a big party, with real, colorful images full of truth, able to translate the rhythms, symbols, and happiness the song carries.”
The production featured more than 100 extras and was filmed in Pedra do Sal, in Rio de Janeiro, and in Salvador. Both locations carry deep samba symbolism, and the visuals gain extra weight with Carlinhos Brown appearing on camera, linking Rio and Bahia’s musical roots.
“This video brings together affections that mean a lot to me. Rio is the city I chose to live in with my family and where I keep building my story, and Bahia played a huge role in my musical formation and still lives in who I am. Having Brown with me in this meeting makes everything even more powerful and true,” says Karinah.
Mirante do Pedrão celebration
At sunset, Karinah carried the video’s vibe into a live samba circle at Mirante do Pedrão, celebrating the release while also nodding to 110 years of samba. The setlist moved between tradition and pure party, creating a close, communal atmosphere with the audience.
Among the guests were Adriana Bombom, Dudu Nobre, and Milton Cunha, alongside other figures tied to samba and Carnival culture. The night underscored samba as a space for belonging, affection, and shared history.
A summer sound with Brown’s signature
“Ripiei” was written by Carlinhos Brown with André Limma, with arrangement and production by Pretinho da Serrinha, a key musician in contemporary samba’s evolution and in projects that expand the genre’s language.
The track brings together punchy horns, cavaquinho, and Rio-rooted percussion, plus Pedro Baby’s guitar, which adds a distinct Bahian identity. The blend balances heritage and modern flair — a direct match for Brazil’s summer Carnival build-up.
Karinah’s career path
Karinah has built a career grounded in artistic identity and respect for samba’s roots. Since turning professional in 2012, her voice and presence have drawn attention from icons such as Dona Ivone Lara, Almir Guineto, and Arlindo Cruz.
Over the years, she has released five albums and collaborated with Martinho da Vila, Fundo de Quintal, Xande de Pilares, Sorriso Maroto, and Alcione — sharing more than 30 shows during a tour celebrating Alcione’s 50-year career. Her most recent album, “Meu Samba,” with artistic direction and participation by Zeca Pagodinho, highlights her maturity as an interpreter and places her among the leading voices of samba’s new generation.
