Singer, dancer, and educator Lizza Dias brings a special concert season to Rio de Janeiro, running from March 13 to April 3. With over two decades devoted to Afro-Brazilian music, Afro dance, and expressions rooted in African and Indigenous traditions, she presents the shows “Negras Melodias” and “Cabocla – A Força da Mulher” at three of the city’s leading cultural venues.

An intimate opening to set the stage

The season opens on March 13 at 7 PM at the Sede do Ginga Tropical. Performed in a trio format, the pocket show “Negras Melodias” serves as an intimate preview of the full project. The performance previews a tribute to Rio-born singer-songwriter Luiz Melodia, offering the audience an early glimpse of the show’s emotional landscape.

The official launch takes place on April 3 at the Centro da Música Carioca Artur da Távola, featuring the full band lineup — including a double bass. The date marks a full-scale celebration of one of Brazilian popular music’s most distinctive voices, whose work bridged samba, soul, and lyrical poetry.

“Melodia was always a reference for aesthetic freedom and deep poetry. Singing his work is also a reaffirmation of the power of Black Brazilian music.” — Lizza Dias

Cabocla: the stage as a space of identity

On March 26 at 7 PM, Lizza takes the stage at the Teatro da Justiça Federal with “Cabocla – A Força da Mulher.” The show highlights the Indigenous, African, and cabocla influences that shaped Brazilian musical identity. Music, body, and memory merge in a performance that connects ancestry, resilience, and female agency into a single, powerful experience.

“This show is born from my lived experience, my roots, and the woman I am. It’s an invitation for audiences to feel the power of ancestry and recognize the strength that comes from our origins.” — Lizza Dias

A career rooted in Black culture

Based in Rio de Janeiro since 2006, Lizza has built a substantial artistic career. A professional musician registered with the Brazilian Musicians’ Order (OMB), she has performed as a backing vocalist for celebrated artists such as Alcione and Leci Brandão. She also runs her own projects and music education initiatives for Afro-descendant children.

Tickets are available at the door and through digital platforms, underscoring the independent nature of the project. The season marks a new chapter in the artist’s journey — one that continues to claim significant cultural spaces in Rio through a repertoire built on memory, identity, and resistance.
