Brazilian singer Lizza Dias takes the stage at Centro da Música Carioca in Rio de Janeiro with a performance that goes far beyond tribute. “Negras Melodias” is a scenic-musical experience built around the work of Luiz Melodia, one of Brazil’s most celebrated composers, whose poetry was deeply rooted in Black Carioca culture.

The project draws on ancestral memory, Afro-Brazilian identity, and cultural affirmation. Lizza revisits iconic songs from Melodia’s catalog, weaving together music, movement, and poetry into a performance that honors both the artist’s legacy and its living relevance today.

This show comes from a very deep place — a connection with my ancestry and everything that Luiz Melodia’s work represents for Brazilian music. It’s a tribute, but also an act of affirmation and continuity.

Freedom, Affection, and Black Womanhood

The show highlights the sonic diversity of Luiz Melodia’s catalog, touching on themes of freedom, affection, identity, and the power of Black womanhood. Each song becomes a meeting point between the composer’s legacy and Lizza’s own artistic presence.

The performance also features the Duo Ligeirinho, composed of Paulo Tarcísio (flute) and Álvaro Sanchez (guitar). Well-known in Rio’s music scene, the duo brings deep roots in choro and samba, enriching the show’s musical texture.
