A new era, a new bossa

Some artists build a sound and stick to it. Luísa Sonza has never been that kind of artist. After the massive success of Escândalo Íntimo (2023) — which topped charts across Brazil and placed her under an intense media spotlight — she chose to slow down and turn inward. What emerged from that process is Bossa Sempre Nova (2026), her fourth studio album.

The record is a heartfelt tribute to bossa nova, crafted alongside two living icons of Brazilian music: Toquinho and Roberto Menescal. It features 13 reimagined classics, one original composition, and the standout track “Chico” — the song that started it all.

The track that changed everything

It was “Chico” that opened the door to this new chapter. When Roberto Menescal produced an English-language version of the song, Luísa found herself drawn even deeper into the world of bossa nova. That creative bond grew into a full album collaboration, joined by the legendary Toquinho.

Among the classics revisited are “Águas de Março”, “O Barquinho”, and “Consolação”, originally released in 1963 by Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes. Each selection reflects Luísa’s deep admiration for the genre.

“I’m a truly obsessed fan — not just Luísa the artist, but Luísa the person. I’m a massive fan of bossa nova as a whole, not just the artists but the entire movement.” — Luísa Sonza, in an interview with Noize

An instinct for reinvention

Luísa herself captures her creative drive best: “I think I keep getting broader. I don’t even know where I’m going, but I know I’m going — and that’s enough. It’s just not in my nature to do only one thing.” That restlessness runs through her entire catalog.
