Harmonica legend Mauricio Einhorn is the main attraction at Jazz no Sobrado in Rio de Janeiro this Saturday, November 8.
The Jazz no Sobrado project welcomes one of Brazil’s greatest instrumental musicians, Mauricio Einhorn, this Saturday, November 8. At 93 years old, the harmonica player is celebrated as a living legend of jazz and bossa nova, known for his distinctive tone and improvisational mastery that make him one of Brazil’s most original and creative voices.
A career of talent and innovation
Composer of classics such as “Travessuras” and “Tristeza de Nós Dois”, and acclaimed interpretations of tangos like “Uno” and “El Día Que Me Quieres”, Einhorn has enchanted audiences for generations, earning recognition as a true master of the harmonica.
His musical journey began in childhood, participating in radio talent shows. As a teenager, he immersed himself in jazz and choro, recording for the first time in 1949. Since then, he has been part of pivotal moments in bossa nova and Brazilian popular music, performing and recording with Baden Powell, Luiz Eça, Pery Ribeiro, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, Claudete Soares, and Tânia Maria.
Internationally, he has shared the stage with jazz greats such as Jim Hall, Ron Carter, and Toots Thielemans, and collaborated with Eumir Deodato and João Donato. With an extensive discography and global recognition, Einhorn is considered one of the greatest harmonica players in the world.
Performance at Sobrado da Cidade
At Sobrado da Cidade, Einhorn will perform alongside Vanessa Rodrigues (keyboards), Adrian Barbet (bass), and Roberto Rutigliano (drums), promising an afternoon of lyricism, intensity, and swing during the Saturday lunch session.
Located in Rio de Janeiro’s historic downtown, Sobrado da Cidade combines gastronomy, culture, and music in a charming and welcoming setting. The Jazz no Sobrado project was created to bring the audience closer to high-quality instrumental music, transforming Saturday lunch into a complete cultural experience.
