Tucked into the cobblestone streets of Rio de Janeiro’s Historic Center, a blue-doored colonial mansion has spent five years becoming one of the city’s most beloved cultural venues. Sobrado da Cidade opens March with a weekend double bill that blends live music, history, and outstanding food.
Milton In Jazz: a tribute to a Brazilian icon
On Saturday, March 7, from 1:30 to 4:30 PM, the Jazz no Sobrado project presents “Milton In Jazz”, a special edition celebrating the work of Milton Nascimento. The legendary Minas Gerais singer and composer has long been a bridge between Brazilian music and jazz — his collaborations with Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding are proof of that enduring connection.
The band will reimagine iconic songs such as “Ponta de Areia”, “Vera Cruz”, and “Maria, Maria” in fresh arrangements that highlight the harmonic depth of his catalog. On stage: Adrian Barbet (bass), Vanessa Rodrigues (keyboards), Didac Tiago (percussion), Marco Túlio (saxophone), and Roberto Rutigliano (drums).
The experience extends beyond the music. Chef Alice Isha curates a menu of carefully crafted dishes, signature cocktails, and desserts designed to complement the afternoon’s musical mood.
Choro circle celebrates International Women’s Day
On Sunday, March 8, International Women’s Day, the weekly Roda de Chorinho returns with a repertoire dedicated to the women who shaped Brazilian music. The Sunday session transforms lunch into a celebration of joy, affection, and cultural memory.
Both events reinforce Sobrado da Cidade’s commitment to live music and culture in the heart of old Rio — where sound, tradition, and a good meal come together in an intimate setting unlike any other.
