Nego Alvaro, Tapetes Contadores de Histórias and Nova Orquestra perform at Botafogo’s waterfront during Natal do Rio.
Rio de Janeiro’s Natal do Rio continues to shine at the Botafogo Waterfront, transforming the iconic site into a space of culture and celebration. The event began on November 30 with the lighting of an 80-meter floating tree featuring over 2.3 million LED lights, drawing more than 100,000 visitors for its opening spectacle.
Created by Abel Gomes and produced by Alexandre Accioly, the project celebrates Brazilian art and diversity, offering a festive lineup that includes samba, storytelling, classical music, and pop performances throughout December and early January.
Saturday, December 6 – Nego Alvaro
Singer and songwriter Nego Alvaro takes the stage from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., performing samba classics such as “O Show Tem Que Continuar” and “Não Deixe o Samba Morrer,” alongside his own compositions. With a career rooted in Rio’s neighborhood samba circles and collaborations with Beth Carvalho and Moacyr Luz, the artist promises an energetic and heartfelt performance.
Sunday, December 7 – Tapetes Contadores de Histórias and Nova Orquestra
At 4 p.m., the storytelling group Os Tapetes Contadores de Histórias brings handcrafted textile art, puppets, and vivid narratives inspired by Brazilian and international folklore. The collective, celebrating 25 years, engages audiences of all ages with imaginative tales.
At 5 p.m., the Nova Orquestra—Brazil’s first 100% pop orchestra—performs a show blending classical instrumentation with modern hits. Known for its appearances at events like Rock in Rio and The Town, the orchestra offers a unique concert experience that bridges genres and generations.
Schedule and access
Cultural activities take place at Praia de Botafogo, between numbers 370 and 374. The floating tree lights up nightly from 7 p.m. to midnight, accompanied by water ballet, light shows, and fireworks every Saturday and Sunday.
Visitors can access the site via two pedestrian tunnels: Tunnel 1, near Rua São Clemente and the metro exit, and Tunnel 2, close to Edifício Argentina (No. 228). A Gastronomic Village near Tunnel 1 offers local food trucks and treats.
Natal do Rio runs until January, with concerts, workshops, and family-friendly activities celebrating the season.
