One of Rio de Janeiro’s most storied music venues is set for a memorable night. On Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 9 PM, pianist Marvio Ciribelli brings his show “Nichteroy Bossa Nova e Sambajazz Orquestra Mini” to Beco das Garrafas, in Copacabana, featuring American saxophonist Tom Bergeron of the acclaimed group Oregon.

Born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Ciribelli has performed across Switzerland, Indonesia, Australia, Germany, and Japan. Joining him onstage are special guests: bassist Rogério Fernandes and drummer Lucca Machado.

A Saxophonist with an Impressive Resume

Tom Bergeron brings a remarkable career to this Rio stage. Over the years, the saxophonist has performed alongside Ella Fitzgerald, Robert Cray, Natalie Cole, and the legendary The Temptations. His presence creates a rare dialogue between American jazz and Brazilian sambajazz.

A Setlist Built on Brazilian Classics

The evening draws from the richest corners of Brazilian instrumental music. Expect compositions by Antonio Adolfo (“Cascavel”), Hermeto Pascoal (“Bebê” and “Chorinho pra Ele”), Egberto Gismonti (“Loro”), Ricardo Silveira (“Bom de Tocar”), Luizinho Eça (“The Dolphin”), and Hamilton de Holanda (“A Escola e a Bola”).

Ciribelli also performs original works. “Mantra” and “Sans Souci” — the latter co-written with Giovanni Bizzotto — offer a window into the pianist’s compositional voice within a repertoire steeped in tradition.

The Birthplace of Sambajazz

Beco das Garrafas is more than an address — it’s a symbol. In the 1960s, this narrow Copacabana alley was where sambajazz first captured the world’s attention, with artists like Sérgio Mendes and Baden Powell performing in its intimate clubs. Hosting a show of this caliber there feels like a homecoming.
