Doce Dioniso opens on Jan 15 at Manouche in Rio with special guest Letrux, celebrating Jorge Mautner’s 85th birthday with classics and deep cuts.
Rio singer Qinhones premieres Doce Dioniso on Thursday, January 15, at 9 pm, at Club Manouche in Gávea, Rio de Janeiro. The concert launches the tribute “Qinhones sings Mautner” and features a special appearance by Letrux.
The project marks Jorge Mautner’s 85th birthday, celebrated two days later on January 17, 2026. Onstage, Qinhones revisits the composer’s songs and ideas, spotlighting a voice that helped shape Brazil’s post-Tropicália imagination.
A setlist of classics and gems
The Jorge Mautner repertoire brings together songs made famous by artists such as Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, and Chico Science. Highlights include “Maracatu Atômico”, “Lágrimas Negras”, “Cinco Bombas Atômicas”, “Matemática do Desejo”, and “Samba Jambo”.
Alongside the well-known titles, the show also dives into lesser-known tracks that have long circulated among musicians and DJs worldwide. The goal is to refresh Mautner’s sharp, ironic writing and bring its impact to the present.
“Na frente do cortejo, o meu beijo / Muito forte como aço, meu abraço / São poços de petróleo a luz negra dos seus olhos / Lágrimas negras caem, saem, doem”
The concert also points to Mautner’s intellectual output. A musician, writer, and thinker, he published 12 books and won the Jabuti Prize with his literary debut at age 21, “Deus da Chuva e da Morte” (1962).
Quotes woven into the show
With spoken excerpts from Mautner and from authors who influenced him, such as Friedrich Nietzsche, the performance alternates songs and short quotations. The format offers the audience glimpses of Mautner’s fertile, wide-ranging thought.
Passionate about Brazilian cultural roots, Mautner blends philosophy with popular swing, stitching together zen and samba, candomblé and rock, counterculture and political insight.
Why “Doce Dioniso”
The title Doce Dioniso nods to Mautner’s admiration for Dionysus, the Greek god associated with music, intoxication, and sensuality. Musically, the show emphasizes percussion and Qinhones’ right-hand guitar groove, grounded in samba-rock and Brazilian groove.
Onstage, Qinhones is joined by Bruno Di Lullo (bass and musical direction), Rafael Rocha (drums), Mafram do Maracanã (percussion), and Antonio Fischer-Band (keyboards).
Qinhones’ path
Qinhones, formerly known as Qinho, is a singer-songwriter whose career took shape in Rio de Janeiro. He has released four original albums and created bands and cultural projects such as the Dia da Rua Festival, becoming a key figure in the city’s independent scene.
After wide recognition for his Marina Lima tribute, “Qinho Canta Marina”, released by Biscoito Fino, earned strong critical praise, was named the 3rd best album of 2018 by Embrulhador, and reached 2 million plays on Spotify. The show also aired on Canal Bis’ “Versões” and has been replayed several times in recent years.
Over nearly 20 years, Qinhones has performed at festivals such as Back2Black, SWU, Festival Faro MPB, MECA, Festival Path, Rock The Mountain, and the Year of Brazil in Portugal (2013), among others. He has also shared stages with Luiz Melodia, Adriana Calcanhoto, Mart’nália, Fernanda Abreu, Paulinho Moska, Jards Macalé, and MV Bill.
