Brazilian punk and hardcore staple Ratos de Porão is releasing “Feijoada Acidente? – Brasil” to digital platforms this Friday, January 16, via ONErpm. Originally released in 1995, the record returns as part of a broader catalog rescue — putting a landmark title from Brazil’s underground scene back within easy reach for new listeners.

A catalog return for a new audience

Born in São Paulo in the early 1980s, Ratos de Porão built its reputation on sharp social commentary and an aggressive sound that constantly moves between punk, hardcore, and metal. The current lineup features João Gordo (vocals), Jão (guitar), Boka (drums), and Juninho (bass).

In that arc, “Feijoada Acidente? – Brasil” holds a special spot. The album revisits key songs that shaped the band’s musical DNA, delivered in direct, raw takes that stay true to the original spirit while sounding fuller and more powerful. The title nods to Guns N’ Roses’ “The Spaghetti Incident?”, underlining its tribute-to-influences concept.

“Going back to punk rock mattered,” says João Gordo

João Gordo frames the album as a crucial return to roots after a turbulent period. “This record took us back to our punk roots. We were kind of lost because we tried an international career and it didn’t really work out. We had released ‘Just Another Crime in Massacreland’, an English-language record—well recorded, well produced—but it was kind of weird, too much style-mixing that people didn’t really get. So going back to punk rock and hardcore was extremely important for us to get our path back. And it was the first record with Pica-Pau. After that release came a heavy hitter called ‘Carniceria Tropical’,” the singer explains.

“Beber Até Morrer” gets a definitive re-recording

The album’s highlights include what the band calls the definitive re-recording of the classic “Beber Até Morrer,” also standing as an essential historical snapshot of Brazil’s early underground foundations. João Gordo recalls how the song came together—and pushes back against glamorizing excess: “Man, I wrote that song on a day I was drunk, at a friend’s place. When I woke up, the lyrics were done on the table. So it represents, like, an anthem for the band. Truth is, a lot of people think drinking until you die is the solution, but it isn’t. I think stopping after a certain point is really important for your health if you want to keep living a better life.”

Over 40 years, still built for the stage

In recent years, the group has celebrated more than four decades with memorable shows spanning every era of its discography. Those performances also marked a full-force return after the pandemic pause, with renewed energy and a setlist designed to cover the band’s many phases.

With “Feijoada Acidente? – Brasil” now back online, Ratos de Porão strengthens its role as a bridge between generations—connecting longtime fans to newcomers discovering the punch of Brazilian hardcore.
