Rio artist blending forró and funk releases bold version of “Mal Acostumado” honoring his grandmother, with Araketu’s blessing and Bahian production.
Artist from Rio’s suburbs who honors his northeastern roots, Riko Viana presents a unique take on “Mal Acostumado”, a massive hit by Araketu. The track is part of “O Rei da Xamegaria – Vol. 1”, a live audiovisual project recorded at Vidical that blends funk and forró across nine tracks, including original songs and covers of major hits.

Pioneering rhythm fusion
Known as The King of Xamegaria, Riko emphasizes his pioneering role in fusing rhythms that rarely dialogue this way in Rio. “I’m the first carioca to mix forró with funk in this format. There’s no one else doing it like this,” says the artist, who transforms northeastern ancestry and suburban experience into dance floor energy.
The sound proposal connects the romanticism of arrocha to the power of tamborzão 2000, creating a new layer for carioca funk with northeastern spice. This comes through strongly in “Bumbum no Chão”, the first song to unite these genres and featured in Guaravita’s latest summer campaign. The project also includes special appearances by MC Tigrão and MC Huck, expanding dialogue between funk variations.

Tribute to grandmother with Araketu blessing
With Araketu’s blessing and authorization from composers Meg Evans and Raimundo Araújo, the version of “Mal Acostumado” was produced by Bahians Patricktor4 and Lerry alongside Riko and Rio producer Xavier2bit, created as a tribute to the artist’s grandmother.
I made this arrangement as a tribute to my grandmother. She loved this song and every time I hear it, I remember her. My grandmother didn’t get to see me release music, unfortunately, so I wanted to create a way to honor her Riko Viana
With general and artistic direction signed by Riko Viana himself, the audiovisual has direction by Fabrício Figueiredo, production by Utero Filmes (responsible for audiovisuals by MV Bill and Matuê), filming and color grading by Veredder, art direction by Lucca Barata, and artistic production by DIMINAS.
2026 tour across Brazil
More than a concert recording, “O Rei da Xamegaria – Vol. 1” consolidates the aesthetic Riko has been building over the years. From MPB to pop, from hip-hop to tecnobrega, the artist has always moved between genres, addressing romanticism, sensuality and social issues. Now, he fully embraces the fusion between Northeast and Rio as his signature: hot, danceable and identity-driven sound.
Beyond the audiovisual release, Riko announces the “O Rei da Xamegaria Tour – 2026”, already confirmed for Rio de Janeiro, Bahia, Sergipe and São Paulo, with new dates being negotiated in the Northeast and North regions. The release coincides with the artist’s first tour through the Northeast, which has already passed through Bahia at Festival Oferendas and Circuito Arrudeio in Aracaju (SE).
