Out now via EMPIRE, Rochelle Jordan’s “Through The Wall” brings 17 futuristic R&B tracks with KAYTRANADA, DāM-FunK and Terry Hunter.
A bold new chapter in futuristic R&B
Singer, songwriter and producer Rochelle Jordan pushes the boundaries between R&B, pop and alternative music on her new album “Through The Wall”. Released via EMPIRE, the project features 17 tracks that reaffirm her distinctive, forward-thinking vision.
The record, awarded an 8.3 rating by Pitchfork, further establishes Rochelle as one of today’s most visionary voices in global pop and R&B. In doing so, she deepens a career built on sonic experimentation and personal storytelling.
High-profile collaborations and a story of breaking barriers
“Through The Wall” comes with executive production by KLSH and collaborations with KAYTRANADA (on “The Boy”), DāM-FunK (“Sweet Sensation”), Terry Hunter (“Crave”), Byron the Aquarius (“TTW”) and Initial Talk (“Doing It Too”). Together, they expand the album’s sonic palette.
For Rochelle, the album celebrates the artist she has become. “Over the years, I faced many walls that felt impossible to break – and I kept breaking them. This album is the feeling of finally having made it through that last wall,” she explains.
From “Play With the Changes” to a new era
Before “Through The Wall”, Rochelle had already drawn acclaim with “Play With the Changes” (2021), hailed as one of the most original releases of that year. Since then, she has multiplied collaborations and broadened her global footprint.
She joined Kaytranada on “Spit It Out”, a track that surpasses 30 million streams, and has worked with Kelela, Snakehips and Childish Gambino. As a result, she stands out as a leading figure in alternative and experimental R&B.
Hybrid sound, diasporic roots and global reach
Widely praised as an artist ahead of her time, Rochelle Jordan has accumulated over 100 million streams worldwide. Her fanbase keeps expanding across different regions, including Brazil, one of the key territories in her career.
Her sound reflects diasporic movement and a hybrid identity, blending the emotional precision of 90s R&B with soul, Jamaican reggae, dancehall and UK electronic influences. References to UK garage and drum & bass echo icons such as Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey and Aaliyah.
Artist shares expectations for the album
Rochelle describes “Through The Wall” as the fulfillment of a long-held dream. “I feel unstoppable now. This is one of those albums I once only dreamed of making. And I really did it. I’m so proud of ‘Through The Wall’. I hope it makes people smile, cry, dance, fall in love and remember there is always light in the darkness,” she says.
