Música Velha Style opens its 2026 calendar with “Special Rocksteady Lovers Style,” a night dedicated to Jamaican roots that shaped Ska and Reggae. Known locally for keeping the Sound System spirit alive, the party takes over Lanchonete Carvalho, a short walk from Shopping Aricanduva.
With John Holt featured on the official artwork, the message is straightforward: a deep dive into Rocksteady, the smooth, swinging sound that defined Jamaica through the 1960s and 1970s. Instead of chasing mainstream anthems, the event leans into vinyl tradition and the raw fidelity of a proper sound system.
Vinyl specialists on selection
The music is in the hands of host Early Dread, joined by Prince Hi-Fi — a long-running East Zone selector and sound system operator with decades of digging — plus Black Smith, a familiar name in the project’s history. Together, they’re set to guide the crowd through timeless cuts, with a strict focus on Rocksteady.

Sticker table brings street culture inside
This special edition also expands into visual culture with a Sticker Table led by guest @aka.nicoy70. The spot invites graffiti, bomb, and tag communities to trade sticker art and connect.
For newcomers—or anyone who wants to jump in—there will be leftover sticker sheets available for free-hand creations on the spot. The goal is to blend São Paulo’s street aesthetics with Jamaican sound culture in a genuine exchange between artists and the crowd.

Approaching its third year, Música Velha Style doubles down on its “from the hood to the hood” identity. The mission isn’t just capacity—it’s building a welcoming atmosphere where peripheral cultural resistance meets the golden era of Kingston.
The night is hosted with support from Lanchonete Carvalho, which has become a safe harbor for the area’s independent scene. Food comes from Cozinha My Life, with quality bites and cold drinks, plus pool tables that keep the hangout vibe central to true Sound System gatherings.
