Two nights at Sesc 24 de Maio, Sandra Sá celebrates 45 years onstage with “Olhos Coloridos” and a soulful mix on Jan 23–24.
Sesc 24 de Maio hosts Brazilian singer Sandra Sá on January 23 and 24 (Friday and Saturday), at 8 p.m. The setlist spans 45 years of career highlights, moving through MPB, soul, samba, and funk, balancing signature songs with tracks tied to key chapters of her discography.
A career built on voice and groove
Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1955, Sandra Sá is known for her deep, distinctive vocal tone and genre-blending approach. One of her defining songs, “Olhos Coloridos,” stands out for addressing racism head-on, a theme that remains urgent in Brazil’s contemporary conversation.
Her path to the stage accelerated in the late 1970s. In 1977, she started studying Psychology but left before graduating after one of her songs, “Morenando,” was recorded by Leci Brandão.
Recognition as a performer followed soon after. In 1980, she released her debut album, “Demônio Colorido,” a milestone that helped shape her presence in Brazilian popular music.
Collaborations and pop-culture moments
Over the decades, Sandra Sá has built a catalog of notable collaborations. In 1983, she teamed up with Tim Maia on “Vale Tudo,” which also inspired the title of her album and became one of the standout moments of her early-1980s era.
Her songs also reached wider audiences through television. “Bye Bye Tristeza” appeared in the 1989 telenovela “Que Rei Sou Eu,” helping cement her place in Brazil’s mainstream soundscape.
More recently, she recorded a new version of “Dona de Mim” with IZA (who wrote the song) and Azzy for the telenovela of the same name, scheduled to run through 2026. The Sesc dates promise a live performance that links these newer moments with her classic repertoire.
