Festival opens with Criolo and Miss Bolívia shows, parades, and Latin American celebration at Arena-Barra Maricá.
Not even the rain that hit Maricá on Friday, the 28th, could dampen the lively crowd at Arena-Barra Maricá for the opening night of the Somos Latinos Festival. The evening featured remarkable performances, cultural encounters, Latin cuisine, and plenty of celebration.
Due to safety measures following the heavy rain, rapper Criolo could not perform on the main stage. Instead, he delivered a rare and intimate show on the Alma Latina stage as part of his 50th-anniversary tour. The performance, full of references to samba and popular rhythms, confirmed him as one of Brazil’s greatest contemporary artists.
Straight from Argentina, Miss Bolívia ignited the crowd with her energetic fusion of cumbia, rap, dancehall, and electronic music. She invited Brazilian singer Alessandra Leão, a Latin Grammy nominee, to share the stage in a powerful meeting of Latin American voices.
The group Songoro Cosongo celebrated its 20th anniversary with a vibrant Afro-Caribbean show. The night also featured the Haitian parade RaraW, a performance by local artist Thiago Dantas, and the dynamic group Samba Que Elas Querem, which opened the event with strong female energy.
Second day highlights
Saturday’s program, on the 29th, begins at 1 p.m. with Chega Mais representing Maricá’s local talents. One of the day’s highlights is Sebastián Piracés, founder of the band Francisco, el Hombre, now on his solo tour Brasilatinamericano, blending Brazilian and Latin sounds.
The event will show the Copa Libertadores final between Flamengo and Palmeiras. After the game, the main stage welcomes the long-awaited return of Móveis Coloniais de Acaju, the Brasília band reuniting after nearly ten years. Mart’nália closes the night with an upbeat samba performance filled with charisma and rhythm.
The day also includes the traditional Bolivian parade Caporales Mi Viejo and the Chilean collective Isleña Antumalen featuring Brazilian singer Kae Guajajara. Visitors can enjoy traditional Latin American dishes such as tacos, arepas, empanadas, anticuchos, and Southern grilled specialties. Dance workshops, children’s activities, and circus acts round out the cultural experience.
