Songwriter’s Day: Fábio Jr. picks career-defining songs

On Songwriter’s Day, Fábio Jr. names five self-penned songs that shaped his path and warms up for Vivo Rio shows on Jan. 30 and 31.

Celebrated on January 15, Songwriter’s Day prompts Fábio Jr. to look back at his catalog and spotlight the songs he most values as an author. With more than 50 years on the road, he has written enduring romantic staples that continue to resonate across generations.

Fábio Jr.’s five picks as a songwriter

Among his favorites is “20 e Poucos Anos,” written and recorded in 1979, a reflective take on youth and life plans. The track became a classic, and it also inspires the title of his current tour, “Bem Mais Que os Meus 20 e Poucos Anos,” which recently gained a live version with a clip tracing his trajectory.

Also released in 1979, “Pai” stands out for its sensitive portrayal of the bond between father and child. The song was the theme for the soap opera “Pai Herói” and remains one of the most moving moments in his repertoire.

From 1982, “O Que É Que Há,” co-written with Sérgio Sá, blends romance with emotional questioning. Featured in the soundtrack of “Final Feliz,” it is still one of his most played and frequently re-recorded compositions.

With a poetic, melodic tone, “Rio e Canoa” gained prominence in the 1992 soap opera “Deus nos Acuda.” Listeners and critics recall it for its nostalgic atmosphere and its importance within his authorial work.

Rounding out the list is “Voltei a Fazer Planos,” from the 2000 album “De Alma e Coração.” Focused on fresh starts and hope in love, it often returns to setlists and radio programming that highlights his work as a composer.

Two January dates in Rio

Beyond the celebration, Fábio Jr. is set to meet audiences in Rio de Janeiro for two special nights. He performs at Vivo Rio on January 30 (Friday) and 31 (Saturday), promising an emotional, nostalgic experience built around classics that helped define his career.
