Album drops Feb 20 featuring 27 tracks and unreleased remixes. The film hits IMAX theaters on the same day with restored 70s footage.
Legacy Recordings and RCA Records have announced the official soundtrack release for Baz Luhrmann‘s new film. Titled EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, the album hits digital platforms and CD on February 20. A double vinyl edition follows on April 24.
This project accompanies the film’s theatrical debut, which begins with an exclusive one-week IMAX run starting on the same date. The global theatrical release follows on February 27. The production offers an immersive experience where Elvis Presley himself tells his story through restored performances.
Unseen archives and restoration
During the production of the 2022 biopic Elvis, Luhrmann’s team discovered a treasure trove of negatives in the Warner Brothers vaults. The material includes original footage from the documentaries Elvis: The Way It Is (1970) and Elvis On Tour (1972). Additionally, 8mm footage and personal audio recordings of the singer were recovered.
The man behind the myth — totally at ease on stage, able to feel the true love of the fans and to communicate with an intimacy and humanity like no other artist. Baz Luhrmann
The restoration process involved Oscar-nominee Jonathan Redmond and Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production. The result highlights the energy of Elvis’s 1970s shows, often described by critics as musically avant-garde moments.
Musical reinventions
The soundtrack features 27 tracks, including updated mixes and new medleys. The lead single, “Wearin’ That Night Life Look,” is available now. The track fuses four Elvis classics to create a fresh soundscape, imagined by Luhrmann and producer Jamieson Shaw.
Luhrmann explains that the inspiration came from the artist’s exploratory nature. The team sought to imagine what musical paths Elvis would take if he were here today, honoring the essence of his sonic experiments.
