At Fazenda Irapuru in Tangará, Thiago Freitas filmed “Meu Lugar no Sertão” with his great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, and the guitar he got at age 10.
On March 19, Fazenda Irapuru, a rural property in Tangará, Brazil, became the backdrop for something far greater than a recording session. Singer Thiago Freitas filmed his DVD “Meu Lugar no Sertão” — which translates as “My Place in the Sertão” — surrounded by three generations of his family: his great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother. Completing the scene was the guitar he received as a gift at age 10.
That guitar is no ordinary instrument. For Thiago, it marks the very beginning of his artistic journey — the place where chords were first learned, where dreams first took shape, and where a musical identity began to emerge.
Where a story finds its roots
Having three generations present gave “Meu Lugar no Sertão” an emotional depth that goes well beyond a standard music project. This DVD is a celebration of lineage, memory, and a deep sense of belonging to the Brazilian sertão — the vast semi-arid interior region with a rich cultural tradition.
Being with three generations of my family and with the guitar that made me dream was the most moving chapter of my life. Right there, my story felt complete. Thiago Freitas
Those words capture the essence of the project. Every song recorded that evening carries the emotional weight of someone who grew up immersed in the stories of the sertão and chose to turn them into music.
