One of Brazil’s most celebrated musical theater productions is back in Rio de Janeiro with a renewed production. “Tim Maia, Vale Tudo – O Musical” opens at Teatro Casa Grande, in the Leblon neighborhood, on March 6, running through April 12. The show then moves to Niterói from April 16 to 19.

The timing carries deep meaning: the musical will be on stage on March 15, the anniversary of Tim Maia’s passing — a date that, in 2026, marks 28 years since his death. The tribute could not feel more intentional.

A Life Worth Telling

Written by Nelson Motta and based on the book Vale Tudo – O Som e a Fúria de Tim Maia, the show traces the arc of the Rio-born artist’s life — from a rebellious youth to national stardom. The production blends modern staging, audience interaction, and around 20 of his biggest hits.

Songs like “Não Quero Dinheiro”, “Azul da Cor do Mar”, “Gostava Tanto de Você”, and “Acenda o Farol” are performed live, bridging longtime fans and younger listeners discovering his work for the first time. These are songs that live on in karaoke nights, social media trends, and everyday moments.

I am immensely happy to announce the return of the musical about my father’s life. Being part of this production is much more than a job — it is a mission. Even without my father physically among us, his musicality, genius, story, and strength remain very much alive. I hold the deepest respect for the legacy entrusted to me and manage it with heart, faithfulness, and great seriousness. This musical is for him and made for you — Carmelo Maia, Tim Maia’s son and artistic curator of the production

Production by the Numbers

The scale is impressive: 16 actors, 12 live musicians, 141 costumes, 32 wigs, and a set weighing approximately six metric tons. Hair and makeup were designed across two distinct phases to mark the transition between acts.

Since its debut in 2012, the show has been praised by audiences and critics alike. This new staging reaffirms that legacy by combining biography, live music, and interactive storytelling.

Curitiba Theater Festival

The production also joins the 34th Curitiba Theater Festival, performing on March 31 and April 1 at 8:30 PM at Teatro Guaíra. Tickets are available at the Festival’s box office in Shopping Mueller (Floor L3) and at www.festivaldecuritiba.com.br.
