Toninho Ferragutti and Quinteto da Paraíba perform free concert in Salvador

Accordionist and string quintet perform on November 13 at Sesc Casa do Comércio with a repertoire blending popular and classical styles.

Renowned accordionist and composer Toninho Ferragutti will join the Quinteto da Paraíba for a free concert on November 13 (Thursday), at 8 PM, at the Sesc Casa do Comércio Theater in Salvador (BA). The performance is free and includes accessibility resources such as physical access and Libras interpretation.

The event celebrates the reunion between Ferragutti and the quintet, 20 years after the release of the album “Nem Sol Nem Lua” (Biscoito Fino, 2006), their first collaboration. The repertoire includes key compositions from Ferragutti’s career, as well as pieces from O Sorriso da Manu (2012) and De Sol a Sol (2021), which deepen the dialogue between accordion and strings.

Repertoire between popular and classical

Known for his versatility, Toninho Ferragutti moves seamlessly through choro, waltz, samba, regional Brazilian rhythms, jazz, and classical music. With more than three decades of career, he has received three Latin Grammy nominations and won the Brazilian Music Award in 2017 as Best Instrumental Soloist.

The concert, which has already been presented in João Pessoa (PB) and Recife (PE), is part of a national tour sponsored exclusively by Galvani Fertilizantes through the Rouanet Law. The repertoire features arrangements by Adail Fernandes, Alexandre Mihanovich, Nailor Azevedo “Proveta”, Rafael Piccolotto, Tiago Costa, among others.

“My compositions reflect what I listen to and enjoy playing,” said Ferragutti, who explores the boundaries between popular and classical music, creating a distinctive and personal sound.

Celebrated careers

Toninho Ferragutti is an accordionist, composer, arranger, and educator with 15 solo and collaborative albums. He has performed with major artists such as Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethânia, Lenine, and Maria Schneider, and has received several national awards for his contributions to Brazilian instrumental music.

The Quinteto da Paraíba, based at the UFPB Department of Music for over 30 years, is one of Brazil’s leading chamber groups. The ensemble has released six albums and collaborated with artists such as Xangai, Chico César, Sivuca, and Antônio Nóbrega, as well as participating in film soundtracks like Central do Brasil and Gonzaga: De Pai pra Filho.
