New illustrated edition of Frankenstein is released by Planeta Minotauro ahead of Guillermo Del Toro’s upcoming film adaptation.
Written in 1816 by an eighteen-year-old author, Frankenstein remains relevant as it explores ambition, solitude and the limits of creation. Mary Shelley’s gothic classic returns in a special edition by Planeta Minotauro, featuring illustrations by Amanda Miranda and a presentation by Cláudia Fusco.
The new release highlights the original text that shaped science fiction and influenced generations of artists. The illustrations are created by Amanda Miranda, a visual artist, comics author and art director. Amanda appeared on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2021, which honors creative and influential young professionals in Brazil.
The presentation is written by Cláudia Fusco, a writer and screenwriter with a master’s degree in Science Fiction Studies from the University of Liverpool. Cláudia teaches and speaks on narratives, pop culture, fantasy and science fiction at institutions such as USP, Casa do Saber, Bienal do Livro, MIS-SP and Sesc.
The timeless story has inspired numerous audiovisual adaptations since its release. Highlights include the 1931 film directed by James Whale, the 1994 version directed and starred by Kenneth Branagh, the 2004 miniseries and the 2012 animation Frankenweenie, directed by Tim Burton.
The novel now returns to the spotlight with a new film directed by Academy Award winner Guillermo Del Toro. The cast includes Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth and Oscar Isaac. The new edition from Planeta Minotauro aims to introduce the original text to readers interested in the upcoming cinematic adaptation.
